About Unitarian Universalism

The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
Justice, equity and compassion inhuman relations;
Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
The goal of world community with peace, liberty and justice for all;
Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

There are seven principles which Unitarian Universalist congregations affirm and promote:
"Unitarian Universalism" is the combination of two separate denominations, a merger that took place in 1961. Unitarians and Universalists shared many (though not all) beliefs, and the combination has worked well. Unitarian Universalists marched with Dr. King in Selma in 1965, and two of them were killed. We have been active proponents of women's suffrage, civil rights and gay and lesbian rights. We have been strong advocates for peace and for religious tolerance. That passion continues to energize us today and, we expect, in the future.
